The Albany Public Schools Foundation awarded $40,000 in classroom grants during the month of November.  Funded projects ranged from electronics, to materials for art, reading, music and physical education. Grant applicants have received their grant status notification letters.

Primary funding for the Classroom Grant Program comes from three Albany Public School Foundation events: iSwim for Kids, iCelebrate Kids Benefit Gala and the iRun for Kids race.

Fundación de las escuelas públicas de Albany (APSF por sus siglas en inglés) otorga $40,000 a maestros de GAPS

La Fundación de las Escuelas Públicas de Albany, otorgó $40,000 en subvenciones para los salones de clases durante el mes de noviembre. Los proyectos financiados van desde electrónica, hasta materiales para arte, lectura, música y educación física. Los solicitantes de subvenciones han recibido sus cartas de notificación de estado de concesión.

La financiación principal para el Programa de Subvenciones de Aula, proviene de tres eventos de la Fundación de Escuelas Públicas de Albany: “iSwim for Kids” (Evento de natación), la Gala de Beneficios de “iCelebrate Kids” (Evento recreativo) y “iRun for Kids” (Evento de carreras).

A company called Niche researches U.S. colleges, schools, neighborhoods, and companies. They recently released their school district rankings. The 2019 Best School Districts ranking is based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Ranking factors include state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores, teacher quality, public school district ratings, and more. Greater Albany Public Schools ranked #8 in the state of Oregon with an Overall Niche Grade of B+.

Los mejores Distritos Escolares en Oregon del 2019

Una empresa llamada “Niche” analiza a universidades, escuelas, vecindarios y
empresas de los EE. UU. Recientemente publicaron su clasificación de distritos
escolares. La clasificación de los mejores distritos escolares del 2019, se basa en un
análisis riguroso de estadísticas clave y en millones de evaluaciones de estudiantes y
padres que utilizan datos del Departamento de Educación de los Estados Unidos. Los
factores de clasificación incluyen, calificaciones de exámenes estatales, preparación
para la universidad, tasas de graduación, calificaciones de SAT / ACT, calidad de
maestros, calificaciones de distritos de escuelas públicas y más. Las Escuelas Públicas
de Albany se ubicaron en el número 8 en el estado de Oregón, con una calificación

Linn Together, a countywide network of volunteers with the mission to strengthen local prevention networks, has partnered with several local organizations, including GAPS, to present “Bullying Prevention in School and Cyber Settings”.   Parents, school staff, and other adults in the community can help kids prevent bullying. Join national bullying expert Dr. Michael Sulkowski, PhD, University of Arizona, for an interactive presentation on bullying prevention in both school and cyber settings.

The annual retiree celebration at the district office recognized the contributions of 33 GAPS teachers, classified staff and administrators who are leaving the District after serving Greater Albany students for a combined total of 478 years.

This month, some of the best spellers in the district moved up the ranks to earn a chance to compete at the statewide level. After the district and county competitions, two students from GAPS earned the chance to compete at the Oregon Statewide Spelling Championship in Salem on Sept 1.

The winners are Paige Rogers from Memorial Middle School and Kate Looney from West Albany High School.

Both students won the district spelling competition for their grade levels. Read the press release from Linn County Spelling Coordinator Kaynor Heineck.

Congratulations to the other GAPS students who competed. The following students had top two finishes:

Elementary:

1st Place: Gabriella  Kesinger, 4th grade, Timber Ridge
2nd Place: Logan Falotico, 5th grade, Liberty Elementary

Middle School:

1st Place: Paige Rogers, 8th grade, Memorial Middle School
2nd Place: Caroline Gao, 7th grade, North Albany Middle School

High School:

1st Place: Kate Looney, 12th grade, West Albany High School
2nd Place: Jonah Willard, 11th grade, West Albany High School

Los ganadores de ortografía competirán en el concurso a nivel estatal en el mes de septiembre.

Este mes, algunos de los mejores deletreadores en el distrito subieron de categoría para tener la oportunidad de competir a nivel estatal. Después de las competencias del distrito y del condado, dos estudiantes de GAPS obtuvieron la oportunidad de competir en el Campeonato de Deletreo Estatal de Oregon, en Salem el 1° de septiembre.

Las ganadoras son Paige Rogers de la secundaria Memorial Middle School y Kate Looney de la preparatoria West Albany High School.
